Mediumship and Spirit Communication
While our society has largely taught us that death is the end of life and that the spirit is bound to the physical body, parapsychologists and energy workers are finding increasing evidence that this is not the case, and that we can communicate with spirits who are disconnected with their bodies in real time.
It seems that there is an unseen dimension, often referred to as the astral plane, in which spirits exist without a body and have a more expansive understanding of not only own their feelings and experiences, but ours as well. Through clairvoyance, clairsentience, clairaudience, and our other subtle senses, psychic mediums are able to bridge this gap between dimensions and deliver messages to the loved ones of spirits who can't speak through a body.
The Spirit
While on this earth we function through our physical vessel, we are all, at our core, spirits having a human experience. This element of pure self, the spirit, is connected to higher planes of existence, such as the astral plane, at all times. We see this when we have experiences like intuitive or "gut" feelings, when we think of someone and they immediately call, or when we see things in dreams that come to be in waking life soon after.
There is an interconnected web of energy we all reside within, which can be accessed, read, and used for thought-communication through the development of the subtle senses. Due to the nature of this life however, we are largely limited to seeing our experience through the filter of the human body and its limitations.
When our spirit is no longer tethered to the bodily vessel, such as after the death of the body or in times of comatose or extreme trauma, our spirit may reside more fully in the astral plane. Here, we can access more information than we could in our body, but we lose the ability to communicate in ways that are easily heard and understood by other spirits in their bodies.
The Medium
Particularly connected to the realms of the spirit, psychic mediums are able to instantaneously tap into the astral plane and have the opportunity to decipher the subtle (and not-so-subtle) messages being delivered by untethered spirits. This may come through as a sensation in the body, an emotion, an image to be interpreted through the medium's frame of reference, or a symbol that may be significant to the loved one the spirit is connecting with. Each spirit has their own unique way of communicating, just as they did in their body. The goal for the medium is to "crack the code" so to speak of the spirit we wish to communicate with, and deliver their sentiments as authentically as possible.
The Process
01
Intention
The first, and arguably most important, part of the process of mediumship is intention. Because the opportunity to be felt and heard by loved ones is exciting to many spirits, an intention may be set to connect to a particular one or to connect only with those who communicate with love and good intention. This is not to say spirit communication should be feared, it is a beautiful process, but that loving boundaries may be placed and observed.
03
Interpretation
Each spirit carries with them their general personality, from their sense of humor to how they collect their thoughts or feelings. As such, each session is a unique experience that must be interpreted differently to match the communication of the spirit. Some spirits speak in a very organized and clear way, feeding information into the medium's field in an orderly fashion. Others may excitedly spew out information which may appear scattered or random, and take more time and care to interpret. Some like to use more personal references to the loved one which have no relevance to the medium, and others primarily use the medium's frame of reference to communicate concepts and sentiments to their loved one.
02
Observation
With the knowledge that they will get the opportunity to communicate with a loved one, many spirits begin communicating with a medium well before the session even begins. This may be impressions of the overall mood of the spirit's message, physical sensations which reflect the state of their human body before death (or currently if in a coma), or subtle nudges to notice things in the medium's surroundings which will be relevant to the communication.
04
Relay
Because of the diversity of experience, the relay of information from the spirit to the loved one participating in the session can be largely one way with stops for confirmation, or a greatly collaborative experience of interpreting the messages together in context. Both are wonderful, and neither implies anything other than the great variation in living beings.
The sessions can be held in person or virtually with equal strength, and timing is of little importance. Wherever there is intention to communicate and a willingness to receive the messages, the spirit will connect.
